MARTYN GREGORY

With a gallery based in St. James’s, London, Martyn Gregory deals in fine early English watercolors and oil paintings of the 18th and 19th centuries. Covering its forty-year history, the gallery has handled works by J.M.W. Turner, Thomas Girtin, Thomas Gainsborough, Paul Sandby, John Varley, David Cox, Peter De Wint among others, and continues to deal in works by these artists along with a strong inventory of watercolors of this period. The gallery also has a good representation of watercolors by early 20th century British artists.

Martyn Gregory is an exhibitor not just at Master Drawings week but has a long-standing history of participation in TEFAF, Maastricht; Masterpiece, London and the Winter Antiques Show, New York. The gallery also holds annual independent exhibitions in Hong Kong and is recognized as the world’s leading specialist in ‘China Trade’ paintings, historic pictures related to the Far East and the work of George Chinnery. 2017 will see the gallery’s second independent China Trade exhibition in New York, to coincide with the Winter Antiques show.

During Master Drawings week Martyn Gregory will be showing an exhibition of approximately 40 British watercolors and drawings from the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. The best exponents of early English watercolor will be represented including Richard Parkes Bonington, Thomas Girtin and John Varley. Among the select group of modern British watercolors will be works by John Nash, RA whose views of rural Britain complement the tradition of early English landscape painting.
